The Federation - Writers Block 101 [SIAMESE Midnight remix]

Posted by Trompie

The Federation are a duo consisting of Neon and MrC [both formarly from the Landmynz era]

One of those that I promised to bring out... As usual...being the hustler that I am, I got the official acappella from the duo themselves cuz I asked to remix the damn thing as the original...which is more boom bappish [sp], mntioned them being owed 10 remixes...Now, they are down to 9 remixes!lol!

Here's the group's bio:

The end of 2006 saw the dawning of a new era for two friends and long-time collaborators, MrC and Neon, with the formation a fresh, new and dynamic crew entitled The Federation. As previous lead-MC’s of the ground breaking local hip-hop group, Landmynz, the conception of the new union was a natural progression for the two MC’s.

Both artists have been making music together for the last 4 years, something that is reflected in the amazing artistic chemistry between the two individuals. With an unparalleled passion and commitment for the advancement of hip-hop music in Africa, the two are currently working on their debut release, a double-disc 40 track album, promptly entitled “Hardcore Styles for Street Rap Preservation.” Staying true to the original roots of hip-hop music, they are true modern age ambassadors of a forgotten era of the genre, popular known as BOOM BAP.

Grimy street tales, laced over jazzy and dark soundscapes , complemented by booming bass drums and sharp snares, is how their define their sound. Influenced by most of the early pioneers of the music genre, they stay true to the artform which has since become a worldwide phenomenon.

They have already released two critically-acclaimed mixtapes as part of the LandMynz collective and performed at countless concerts and gatherings around the Gauteng area and the rest of South Africa. With only 4 years in the cut throat South African music industry, they have managed to work which such highly regarding artists as Proverb, Nthabi, Reason , Beats against the Beast, X-Rate, Ootz and Others.

Representatives of the underdogs and the common man in the streets, their subject matter is a true representation of ordinary life in the unpredictable and poverty-stricken streets of Soweto.

I dont know if yo'll notice the way this tracklist is set up, but if you pay attention or know OG (Ondagrnd) personally, yo'll know that he's about story telling with conceptual albums...this album takes off from the Plot thickens which also was conceptually built from an cypher MC point of view (I stand to be corrected by the artist), but Life in Retrospect is more on performances and a closer look into the personal life of the artist, hence the album title. I am humbled and pleased to have worked with the artist for over 8 months on this here and on his behalf, will like to emphasize for you to buy it, I believe it will be yo money's worth as I think if you play all trax sequentially, you'll be inter-active with the plot. Here are bits and pieces of OG's life On this blog, Load the show and myspace account.

Here's the artist's Bio:

    Batsile ONDAGROUND Ramasodi

Raised in the calm but grimy hood of Atteridgeville in the 80’s, Batsile at an early age realized that Hip-hop is the best genre of music to express himself. It was only in ’97 though that he started penning his own lyrics and hitting the ciphers. He was in a clique called Tombstone Engravers(T.S.E) which was heavily influenced by the Military sounding, boom bap group Wu- Tang Clang as well as the Boot camp clique.

T.S.E soon broke cause of growth and they all went their separate ways.

During his Drama studies at T.U.T something said to him, “why not do your rap thing again” and after a tour to Grahamstown, he did exactly that. Influenced by Hymphatic Thabs’s style he started a chain of tracks with a story line, of which he perfomed at the legendary SICK POETRY SESSIONS. From there offers started coming in.

He performed as an M.C and opening act for groups such as NEW AKADEMICS, WONDERBOOM, SKWATTA KAMP and PROVERB at the Castle world wind tour in 2005. He has taken part in a lot of shows hosted in PTA hosted by roach inc. and was able to be a hit at the M.T.N hype tour at the State Theatre. He’s also taken part at the BACK TO THE CITY show hosted every year by Unlearn Agency and the Ritual store every year on the 27th of April.

He’s now working on a Stage show that will change the way hip hop artists perform on stage and working on his third installment called LIFE IN RETROSPECT with one of the dopest producers in the country right now,Trompie of SIAMESE PRODUCTIONS. It’s expected out end July.
