Blaq Poet And DJ Premier Release EPK In Anticipation Of New Album, Tha Blaqprint
Posted by TrompieThe Video:
You may occasionally catch yourself imagining what it would be like to be a rapper for a day. Well, Blaq Poet, with the release of his new album, Tha Blaqprint on the way, is taking some time out to give fans an inside glimpse into his life with Tha Blaqprint EPK. The video follows Blaq Poet as he and DJ Premier are interviewed by the legendry DJ Tony Touch on Shade45, and during the interview Poet and Preemo speak on the upcoming album, the squashing of Poet’s long-held beef with KRS-One, and more. Closing out the interview, Blaq Poet lets supporters know he hasn’t lost a step, spitting an exclusive freestyle. Speaking of exclusive, the EPK is also full of never-before-seen performance footage from a show in Tokyo, Japan as Poet and Preemo tear down the stage and even perform a few songs featured on Tha Blaqprint. And just in case you haven't had a chance to check out the video for his first single, "Ain't Nuttin' Changed," (mp3 link below) the good folks at Year Round Records have included the video in its entirety to close out the EPK..

Also, check out this video on the history of Fat Beats Records, bringing you fresh, independent hip hop since 1994.
The Background:
Blaq Poet, a Queensbridge, NY native, first made a name for himself in 1987, entering his name into the legendary battle of Queens vs. The Bronx with his song "Beat You Down," a scathing attack on KRS-One. Later, honoring a dead friend and namesake, he formed the hardcore rap group Screwball, comprised of other QB spitters Hostyle, Solo, and Poet’s cousin KL. Elsewhere, he appeared on the anthemic LP Nas Presents Queensbridge’s Finest, alongside Jungle and Cormega on “Straight Outta Q.B.” Blaq Poet’s refusal to dilute his subject matter or soften his cadence attracted the interest of rap’s most legendary producer, DJ Premier. Preemo, along with fellow luminaries Pete Rock and Marley Marl, laced Screwball’s Y2K album with Poet’s beloved boom-bap. A second album, Loyalty, would follow the next year, thereafter the Screwed Up compilation in 2004. Premier also lent his sonic signature to Poet’s 2006 solid solo debut, Rewind: Deja Screw. Preemo then inked Blaq Poet to his own Year Round Records label. Blaq Poet's new album, Tha Blaqprint, will be available this spring via Year Round Records via Fat Beats Distribution.

The Song:
In an effort to spread the message of uninfluenced and unconditional love, Keelay & Zaire bring us "Alright With Me," the second official single from their debut album, Ridin High. Kee & Zee's smoothed out keys and bouncy bass provide the perfect backdrop for Dminor to spread his wings and take off. A hip-hop/soul vocalist from Los Angeles, Derek "Dminor" Young started his recording career at the age of 7 and has since produced or been featured on projects with artists such as Othello, Supastition, Styles of Beyond, Lovespirals, Muneshine, Emilio "Raks One" Rojas, MF Grimm, Louis Logic, and many more. His soul-filled voice dominates the first two-thirds of the track, as he sings passionately of the feelings he has for his lady, and the lack of interest he has in hearing what anyone else has to say about it; he knows they dig each other and to him that's all that matters. The song concludes with a special cameo from Phonte of Little Brother. Phonte describes his relationship by using the phrase "punch-drunk love;" the type of love where you can't even think straight when you're in the presence of your significant other. Phonte plays on this phrase when he says, "...Punch-drunk love we stay liquored up / 151 proof shining through the sunroof, let your hair down, girl, I gotta give it up to you."

Ill Bill is still working hard in 2009 after completing his sophomore album The Hour of Reprisal and a forty-date tour last year. Representing his group La Coka Nostra, which is comprised of Slain and former House of Pain members Everlast, Danny Boy, and DJ Lethal, Ill Bill performs his most personal song, "My Uncle," live on Fearless Music TV. Check out the video for the performance with DJ Eclipse backing Bill up.
Bill explains the background of the song: "When I was a kid, I looked up to Howie. My parents split when I was little and my mom was at work all the time. My grandmother raised me and my uncle was always around. Now that I'm older, I know that he was a heroin addict with all kinds of severe issues but as a kid, I had no idea what heroin addiction was. Naming the label after him was a joke at first. It wasn't until much later that it took on a deeper meaning. It was my way of attaching something positive to a person who had a huge, positive impact on me" states the MC. Bill continues “He had the potential for greatness but ended up going down the wrong path. Me including him in my music is my way of giving back."
The Background:
The Hour of Reprisal, the highly anticipated second solo album from Brooklyn's independent hip hop kingpin ILL BILL is available now on Uncle Howie/Fat Beats. The former Non Phixion member and current La Coka Nostra riot-starter has surgically crafted a fine masterpeice featuring guest shots from Raekwon The Chef, Immortal Technique, La Coka Nostra, B-Real, Necro, Tech N9ne, Bad Brains, DJ Muggs, Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage, Max Cavalera of Sepultura/Soulfly, DJ Premier, Vinnie Paz and More.

If you're still trying to beat Interdependent Media's game Super Finale, then here's extra incentive for you to exercise those thumbs and try harder. For his new album, A Pipe Dream and A Promise (out April 7th), Finale teamed up with Hieroglyphics emcee, Casual for "One Man Show" (A Rival 8 Bit Remix), available as a free download when you beat the Super Finale game (and from this email if you're lazy!). It's a Bach "Invention" meets synthesizer in this remix, as the independent melodies intersect to create a futuristic sound reminiscent of 80's babies video games. The distinct music, however, does not take away from Casual's rhyme, Black Milk's production, nor Finale's solid voice that declares "I'm a giant that sit at your doors / ask around I beat up a track."
Finale Tour Dates here : http://www.audibletreats.com/pr/finale_pr4.html
Finale recently released Super Finale, an innovative, Super Mario Bros-themed video game, starring Finale as the main character, in which fans can win track the track "One Man Show" from the album upon completion of the game. A Pipe Dream And A Promise features production from J Dilla as well as Nottz, Flying Lotus, Oddisee, MPhazes, and Black Milk, who produced the album's lead single "Motor Music."

The Background:
Before making his entrance into hip-hop, Finale worked as an automotive engineer promising to one day follow his dream of becoming a rapper. Making the rounds at local Detroit open mics and emcee battles, Finale began to mingle with local talents like Guilty Simpson and One.Be.Lo. After emailing some joints back and forth with J Dilla, Finale finally met him backstage at the DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival), where Dilla introduced him to Madlib, saying that he was one of the best in the game. “It was an honor and definitely a defining moment," says Finale. After realizing his passion and talent for hip-hop, Finale decided to finally quit his day job, follow his true passion, and make music a full-time career. After a handful of Fat Beats released singles, an album released with European producer Spier 1200 as a part of The Rawkus 50, and numerous appearances on independent releases from Invincible, eLZhi and others, Finale's official debut LP, A Pipe Dream & A Promise, will be released in stores and online on Aptil 7th via Interdependent Media.

Bisc1 Teams With The Legendary Video Graf Productions For "Strange Love" Video
Posted by TrompieVideo Shot, Produced and Directed by Famed Producer Of Graffiti Videos, Carl Weston
The Video:
In early 2009, Bisc1, emcee, graphic designer, and graffiti artist, released The Strange Love Project, the reinterpretation of his 2008 album When Electric Night Falls by 10 producers and 20 visual artists. Taking it one step further, Bisc1 now brings you The Strange Love Project's first video, "Strange Love." To shoot the video, Bisc1 joined forces with Carl Weston, the legendary, original producer of graffiti videos since the late 1980's, and graffiti documentarian through his production company Video Graf Productions. Weston, whose cult-classic videos were an original inspiration on Bisc's own graffiti, does masterful work directing and producing this video for the "The Strange Love," bringing Bisc's words to life with stunning nighttime visuals and shots of Bisc1 getting busy. Protected by the darkness of abandoned streets and alleyways of lower Manhattan, Bisc and Carl bring to life the look and feel of a graffiti addiction.

About Bisc1's Strange Love Collection:
As a artist / designer / musician, I was curious to see how the world around me would interpret my strange relations. So with the help of 10+ producers and 20+ artist I have put together an extensive collection of audio and visual interpretations. Starting with a record I released in early 2008 When Electric Night Falls and ending here, with The Strange Love Project
Part art installation, part remix, The Strange Love Project is free for fans to download at his website: http://www.busybisc1.com/strangelove
The Background:
A native of Massachusetts by way of Connecticut, Bisc1 moved to NYC 10 years ago and quickly made a name for himself DJ'ing at clubs, distributing mixtapes, and in creative circles. Soon, Bisc1 picked up the mic and won several battle raps including the Whose Line Is It monthly at the Knitting Factory in NYC 4 consecutive months in a row. His debut release, The Basics EP (2006), gained the favorable attention of music critics and his subsequent release, The Stay Up Project mixtape (2007) was downloaded over 5000 times. Bisc's penchant for capturing our chaotic reality with his narratives, images, and collaborations has earned him a reputation as one of the most honest and creative artists of today. Going beyond music, Bisc1 is also an accomplished graphic artist. He's done cover art, designed promotional materials and spearheaded art direction for artists such as Aesop Rock, The Perceptionists, C-Rayz-Walz, Murs, El-P, and others. His art has been featured in several magazines and art house coffee table books and in galleries, such as Danny Simmon's Rush Arts Gallery. 2008 was a big year for Bisc. He released the critically acclaimed album When Electric Night Falls, toured the US, and performed at CMJ, SXSW, Scribble Jam, and NXNE. When Electric Night Falls, for which Bisc did all the art direction, is available in stores and online everywhere now via Embedded Music.

In anticipation of their debut full-length album Ridin High, Keelay & Zaire are releasing a free EP this month to give us a taste of what they can bring to the table. Entitled Prelude To Drive, the EP is riddled with impressive guest artists. "Exclusive Sh!t" features Supastition, a North Carolina native, who provides a heavy hitting flow to the track. He wants us to know that he's head and shoulders above his competition when it comes to his prowess on the mic and his lyrics get right to this point. Put his in-your-face style on top of Keelay & Zaire's gritty and well produced beat, and you've got a classic hip-hop jam in the making.

Complementing each other's styles with precision, Kee & Zee work as a sole production machine that spawns gritty classic hip-hop, soulful R&B, and any other medium that requires an exclusive sound from the team. Illa J - "Sounds Like Love" featuring Debi Nova
"My favorite sound is the sound of strong affection..."
The Song:
"Sounds Like Love" is a song that speaks true to its title. The combination of Illa J's sexy LL Cool J approach to his verses with the smooth jazzy vocalizations of Debi Nova on top of the soulful beat produce the sounds of love in this joint. But this isn't the type of love you might assume; instead Illa is speaking about his devotion to his relationship with one particular lady. You learn very quickly that he's wrapped up in this girl when he says, "And if we have a problem, we speak face to face, start solving / This relationship I put my all into." Debi Nova echoes her affections in the chorus, singing passionately of her feelings in return.
The Background:
When Jay Dee passed away from complications relating to lupus in February 2006, he left behind an extraordinary legacy of production work, including hits for Common, Janet Jackson, and Busta Rhymes. One mother lode of previously untouched beats dates from his time working on the Pharcyde's sophomore album, Labcabincalifornia (Delicious Vinyl, 1995). As Delicious Vinyl owner and founder Michael "Mike Floss" Ross explains: "From '95 through '98 Jay Dee was my go-to guy for hot beats and remixes. He was always making beats, always. So there was a select amount of tracks that he composed for me during that time, tracks as good as anything he'd done, only they never got used. When I finally met Illa J last year, I gave him a CD containing those unreleased beats."
In a case of pure serendipity, 21 year-old Illa J had just relocated from Detroit to Los Angeles and constructed a studio built using Jay Dee's recording equipment. He dubbed it Yancey Boys Studios in tribute to their fraternal bond. "Dilla was 12 years older than me," Illa J says. "So back in the day in Detroit I was just a little kid, sitting on the stairs in our house, watching him make those first beats for Slum Village. I always felt my brother's tracks and had an instinct for what I wanted to do over them." When Illa J set to work in early '08 recording the album, the project flowed quickly as he entered the proverbial can't miss zone. The name of the studio rightly became the title of the finished album, Yancey Boys, which is available online and in stores everywhere on Delicious Vinyl Records.

*in succession of the latter, I created a subscription and shout box so ppl can get info easier and shout out in stead of commenting elsewhere...(YES...my inbox got full of requests too)!
*I did what I do best... produce gems and be involved in creating them with other artists
*I created new networks and renewed old ones (in the process...got rid of some unwanted ones too!!)
*SIGNED Ondaground aka BOY WONDER
*plus more
The list is actually endless, thats if I have to name all mixtapes and albums I was involved in...
So....LETS BEGIN!!!!
