Okay... heres a little story I have...
Back early 2006 I had the pleasure of meeting with these two chics...wait... they rocked up at my spot with a nicc I was busy producing. They were per say impressed with my production and asked if they could work with me... So after some time stalling, I ended up doing a track with them late 2007... although girl groups are unreliable, you know a split is eminent...

Official album cover and sampler to follow apparently next friday... but Imma hook yo'll up wit the back cover in a mo'.
The Song:
Illa J pulls out the funk and soul for "Strugglin'," off his freshly dropped album, Yancey Boys. Over one of Dilla's more minimal beats, Illa J raps (and shows off his singing voice a bit) about an artist trying to make it in the biz. As he says in the chorus, "I'm 'bout to take you on a ride / of a struggling artist / It ain't no easy slide / You gotta hustle the hardest." With a brother like J Dilla, Illa had a good model to look up to, but that doesn't mean it was smooth sailing trying to get his message out there. With a fierce dedication to his music and lyrical skill that he continues to hone, Illa J delivers his art on Yancey Boys, saying "Let me tell you my mission / I'm here to inspire / to bring together the earth, wind and fire."
The Background:
When Jay Dee passed away from complications relating to lupus in February 2006, he left behind an extraordinary legacy of production work, including hits for Common, Janet Jackson, and Busta Rhymes. One mother lode of previously untouched beats dates from his time working on the Pharcyde's sophomore album, Labcabincalifornia (Delicious Vinyl, 1995). As Delicious Vinyl owner and founder Michael "Mike Floss" Ross explains: "From '95 through '98 Jay Dee was my go-to guy for hot beats and remixes. He was always making beats, always. So there was a select amount of tracks that he composed for me during that time, tracks as good as anything he'd done, only they never got used. When I finally met Illa J last year, I gave him a CD containing those unreleased beats."
In a case of pure serendipity, 21 year-old Illa J had just relocated from Detroit to Los Angeles and constructed a studio built using Jay Dee's recording equipment. He dubbed it Yancey Boys Studios in tribute to their fraternal bond. "Dilla was 12 years older than me," Illa J says. "So back in the day in Detroit I was just a little kid, sitting on the stairs in our house, watching him make those first beats for Slum Village. I always felt my brother's tracks and had an instinct for what I wanted to do over them." When Illa J set to work in early '08 recording the album, the project flowed quickly as he entered the proverbial can't miss zone. The name of the studio rightly became the title of the finished album, Yancey Boys, available online and in stores everywhere on Delicious Vinyl Records.

13 Week Marathon Plug has started and you wont wanna miss that... Hakeem has come out wit blazing gunz pointed at anything getting in front of him - a preparation for his forth-coming album "Pens and Swords"... this Marathon is said to also run on selective radio stations. So start doing the collection now...
The Song:Keelay & Zaire, master production duo, hit audiences hard with the first single off their debut LP, Ridin High. The track, entitled "The Times," is a motivational social commentary on the current state of things that is lit on fire by the vocal stylings of guest emcees Slo-Mo, Nino Moschella, and Blu (all ofSoul Vibe). The offer some sound advice against the injustices and tribulations of modern culture: "Tryna maintain and build me a strong foundation / as I mash, plottin' around town patient / Growin' in the mind and gaining tools to use / against those with opposite views who choose to abuse." The passion behind the lyrics is reinforced by the wistful production that serves as a eulogy to an era when life was uncomplicated. The Background:Keelay & Zaire are a bi-coastal team that operates with only one concrete rule; creating music with unlimited range. Complementing each other's styles with precision, Kee & Zee work as a sole production machine that spawns gritty classic hip-hop, soulful R&B, and any other medium that requires an exclusive sound from the team. With Keelay out West in the Salt Lake City region, and Zaire in the East, holding it down in Virginia, the two have almost unlimited resources from which to draw talent and inspiration. In their debut LP Ridin High, the pair's versatility takes center stage, backed up by a talented cast of emcees and singers including Slo-Mo, Mario Dones, The A.V.E., J.Fish, Phonte of Little Brother, Supastion, Blu, Cali Agents, Darien Brockington, Tash of Tha Liks, Torae, Saafir, Khizman, Fortilive, Jonathan Moore, Emilio Rojas, Surreal, Jony Fraze, and Tiffany Paige. Keelay & Zaire's Ridin High will be released in early 2009 byMYX Music Label. Please contact Michelle if interested in talking with Keelay & Zaire

Hakeem and Ondaground performed amongst an army of local up-coming artist the past "Rainy" weekend... To represent mid-CapCity (Sunnyside), the two were joind by RAS (aka R-to-tha). The performances were held outside the Atteridgeville Community Hall and the crowd was not disappointing at all despite the freezing horrible wet weather.
Anyway... here are the clips taken by HHH resident camera man/Mc/businessman (lol)!!!
I understand the concept of mixtapes a whole lot more cuz after years of research and listening to hip hop, you come to terms with words and phrases used for/in music.
Here is something saddening to the musical industry world wide I picked up on my way to work:
ROME (AFP) — South African singer Miriam Makeba has died aged 76 after being taken ill near the southern Italian town of Caserta following a concert, ANSA news agency reported Monday.
She died overnight after taking part in a concert for Roberto Saviano, a writer threatened with death by the Mafia, the Italian agency said.
Miriam Makeba, known as "Mama Africa", was the legendary voice of the African continent who became a symbol of the fight against apartheid in her home country.
She died just after having sung for half an hour for the young author of "Gomorrah" at Castel Volturno near Naples along with other singers and artistes.
She was taken ill and was quickly taken to a clinic in Castel Volturno where she died of a heart attack, ANSA said.
Miriam Makeba was born in Johannesburg on March 4, 1932. She made an international farewell tour in 2005.
Born from a Swazi mother and Xhosa father, Makeba captured international attention as vocalist for the South African group, The Manhattan Brothers, while they toured the United States in 1959.
The following year, when she wanted to return home to bury her mother, the apartheid state revoked her citizenship and later also banned her music. As a result she spent 31 years in exile, living in the United States and later in Guinea.
She became the first black African woman to receive a Grammy Award which she shared with folk singer Harry Belafonte in 1965.
Two years later her fame sky-rocketed with the recording of the all-time hit "Pata Pata" (Xhosa for "touch, touch" describing a township dance) although she unknowingly signed away all royalties on the song.
She hit an all-time low in 1985 when her only daughter, Bongi, died aged 36 from complications from a miscarriage. Makeba did not have money to buy a coffin for Bongi, and buried her alone barring a handful of journalists covering the funeral.
But she picked herself up again, as she did many times before, like when her father died at a young age, or when she recovered from cervix cancer, or her many unhappy relationships, or unfounded rumours of alcoholism, according to her biography.
She returned to South Africa in the 1990s after Mandela was released from prison but it took a cash-strapped Makeba six years to find someone in the local recording industry to produce a record with her.
She since released "Homeland" which contains a song describing her joy to be back home after the many years in exile in which she spoke out against apartheid and testified twice before the United Nations.
"I kept my culture. I kept the music of my roots. Through my music I became this voice and image of Africa and the people without even realising," she said in her biography.
